SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (By Ken Wooldridge)— We had just an outstanding event at VKA Springfield! 

Broke the record that was 86 entries with this year’s count at 114! Thanks to all of you for making this a truly memorable event.

Thursday 5/15 was very hot but a great practice day for all

Friday 5/16 was a great first day as we practiced and ran the first heat very well. The threat of wind and rain approached around 3PM so we all buttoned up and had a hard 15-minute rain with high winds. We decided to postpone the second heat and proceed with the kart show and the dinner following. Both turned out great and all had a great time.

Saturday 5/17 was a short practice with heat two and three ran very smoothly. Everyone really seemed to enjoy this event, and we were doing awards around 2:30PM. 

Jon Clem and the rest of the Midstate crew do a fantastic job helping me with this event. Jon handmade all the special trophies for the event and they were beautiful. 

Special thanks to Mike’s brother John Birdsell for being there and leading the memorial lap on a golf cart in Mike’s memory. Also special thanks to my wife Joyce and my grandson Erick for being so helpful the entire time.
