CAMDEN, Ohio (By event promoter Jeff Brown) — This was the 13th year for VKA at G&J Kartway / Camden and it was the largest kart count ever at 126 entries. Gary Gregg, the facility’s original family owner, had the complete track and pits repaved. The drivers all said it was fantastic. The OVKA club assisted the workers required to run the event. They have been holding major and club events since the 1960’s.
The weather couldn’t have been better, sunny and in the 80’s. One heat was run on Friday and also the kart show ran by Romero Llamas. Pictures of the event were posted on the VKA Facebook of the whole event.
The Friday dinner was provided by Steve Mox and Jim Maxtorque Donovan, which included pulled pork, giant hot dogs and all the fixins. Karters and their families sat around til dusk discussing the day’s activities with a nice breeze.
Saturday included a short practice followed by heats 2 and 3.
Sandy Miller sold over $1000 of 50/50 tickets and Sherry won the drawing which was split with the VKA.
Several board members from the VKA were in attendance including President John Copeland, Lynn Haddock, Marty Westen and Scott Nagel. VKA has put together a great schedule of tracks. Several new members have told me the group is the best and most friendly folks they ever met. Eric Mack, a new member of color, told me that he was helped and given support above and beyond. He was so glad to get back into karting. This is what the VKA is all about.

Sherry and I want to thank everyone involved. We have been karting since the late 50’s . Her father owned a kart shop in Detroit in the 60’s. She raced nationally, worked at Burris manufacturing and was on the board of Southern California Kart Club in the 70’s. We love the sport and all the great families.
Hope to see everyone next year. God Bless America.
