New Castle VKA attracts record crowd in June

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (By Jeff Brown) — The 2024 New Castle VKA Super Nationals was the largest event to date with 227 entries including practice only. The weather also was the best ever with temps in the 80’s and dry.

Memberships sold : (20), VKA 50 / 50 Raffle netted $760 for the club – ticket seller was Margarita De Francisco from (PA).

Newly inducted to the hall of fame were Sandy Critlle Sropko , (who had an accident on the way there and is still healing up.) Mike Burris who has been a pillar in karting since the 60’s .  Romero Llamas, who is our historian and show kart leader,  and Jim (Max Torque) Donavan  who keeps everyone going with clutches and is our head chef at nearly every event all year.  These folks have done outstanding support for karting and VKA events .

Karters came from all across our country and one from Europe who reports for Vroom karting mag.

The Freber family who have built Margay karts since the 60’s came with several karts and items they manufactured over the years including a cutaway gearbox.  They visited with all the karters and helped judge the Margay show karts and donated Grandfather clocks to the winners of the show karts and the special on track Margay class.  The show kart winners were the Boarman family who brought several margays.  The on track margay class was awarded to the De francisco family.

It was our 16th year of being able to use this first class facility owned and operated by the Dismore family and it is truly a blessing for us to be treated like family.  Mike Adams (Mark’s son in law)  is the manager who gives it his all along with his wife Estina and her crew at the restaurant . The food they serve is fantastic everyday, especially at the Friday night Banquet. The whole team at the facility LOVE the vintage group because all of us are there to have a good time without whining .

We can’t say enough about the vintage karters that I’ve reconnected with and all the new ones I continue to meet. Sherri and I have been involved for over 60 years and we love you all.

See you soon and God Bless America.
