New to the forum. Thanks in advance for help.

I have a West Bend Power Bee 580, specifically 58013. It has been sitting on my dad's shelf for roughly 50 years since it was removed from a kart because it wasn't running well. I got it from him a couple of years ago and decided this week to start working on getting it running. My guess is it needed a points adjustment or carb cleaning, but who knows. That's a lot of time gone by.

I checked compression at about 75 psi. Seems low to me, but I don't know what the spec is for this engine. That's my first question.

Flywheel and carb are removed. I have a carb kit ordered and will get the points adjusted as stated on the plate at 0.020". I'm looking for any recommendations since I don't have any details or manual. Do these exist somewhere? The only things I know for sure is this is from the early 60's with limited resources, but I love old projects like this.

My shop consists of older motorcycles, 2 of which I have restored and 1 in progress.

Thanks,
Dee

Hi Dee,
I just saw this. The 58013 is a very desirable 5-port 580 West Bend. I may have an article originally authored by Philip Jacobson after rebuilding one of these for me. I can send you the article if desired. I don't mind if you call me for more insight. California time 650 341-0343. -Bill
