Help! I acquired a Margay Gearbox and I could use a copy of the rebuild article that was published in the VKA Magazine back in 2008. I am prepping an old Lancer Enduro and want to use the gearbox on the kart. Hope to run it next year at one of the vintage enduro outings. It would be great if someone put a copy of this article on the web site in the article section. I see multiple requests for it in the forum. Can someone help? Send me a PM and I will send you my e-mail. Thanks in advance.

I know that this conversation is from years ago...

I would appreciate the opportunity to read the Margay Gearbox Rebuild article mentioned here. Is there a way for me to obtain a copy?

Thanks,

Kurt

I would very much like to see a copy of that article. Where can I find it?

Tommy, would your ton of spare parts happen to include an input shaft? Mine has one of the six "fingers" missing. I don't know how long it's been missing and it seems to be working all right without it, but I'd like to know where I could get a replacement in case I ever have the box apart again.

Thanks Tom. Like I said, it's working OK as is, I just want to know that I can get another one should I loose more fingers.

Now can somebody point me to the rebuild article?

Bill,
that article was done by Mark Havery,, now deceased, and Dean Seavers and as far as I know all of the original magazines that it was in are all gone. I'll look around and see if I have a copy that I could scan and mail to you.

I found a copy of the article. It's posted on the Vintage Karting America forum.

I forget where I downloaded this from. May have been posted on Margay's site? Really cool info, if nothing else.

looks like the Margay engineering drawings and attendant price list for the gearbox, parts, and assorted items for other engine adapters.
The article by Mark Havery was how to rebuild a Margay gearbox and oil bath clutch housing complete with parts numbers for the seals and O rings. There was a later attendant article with the parts numbers and sources for the bushings for the gearbox mounting boss.

Lance, I found your post on the matter in a topic here titled "Margay Gearbox Bushing/Corvette part number":

"In addition to the part listed at Corvette Central, (531358) these bushings are also available from Eckler's Corvette Parts.
Their part numbers are: #48768. similar to the ones from Corvette Central with a bronze center tube for the bolt and #22525 which has a urethane shock absorbing compound between the inner and outer tubes for longer life.
The price for #48768 is $18.99 each and for #22525 is $29.99 each. Remember that two will be needed for replacement.
I chose the urethane replacement bushing #22525 for my own gearbox since every other one I had seen had the bushings pounded out from the torque loads. This would probably be worse with larger displacement, more powerful engines.

VKA #264"

Obviously prices and availability may have changed over time.

I also have this downloaded from somewhere:
